Eye know!

I've just booked a date for my eye surgery. I've gone for the cheaper option, if I had the finances then I would have no hesitation in paying £3200 for the intralase procedure, which has quicker healing results. But as I seem to be suitable for both types of surgery and my finances are limited its probably my best option at the moment (unless one of us suddenly wins lots of cash with our premium bonds).

An Eye for An Eye

Right now I look like I've just swallowed some LSD. My pupils are still hugely dilated after my trip to Optical Express (more like comedy express - but more of that later). I decided to see if I would be suitable for laser eye surgery. I already had in mind a budget of about £2400 as the technology advertised seem to fit my needs (very short sighed and with astigmatism). I first spoke to one woman, who was a bit loud and seemed to behave a bit odd. Her discussion with me seemed to be more like rehearsed sales patter. She also reminded me of Shirley Carter from Eastenders *laughs*. Anyway she handed me over to Matesh who then proceeded to numb my eye balls, poke, prod, and shine all sorts of lights in my eyes. Finally he said "Congratulations - you are a suitable candidate for eye surgery" I thought I'd won a prize. Matesh then handed me back to "Shirley" who then noted down the different treatments and here's the crunch - they recommend the most expensive treatment at £3200. Feh I though - but when I asked questions I realised that the only difference between these treatments is that the most expensive one incorporated a laser that did the cutting of the eye, rather than a surgeon performing that part. An extra £800 for a machine to do the cutting work. Ok so the healing time was less and I'd only need 1 day off work rather than 4. But still £800 extra!!! Not too sure what to do at the moment, so will have to think it over for a few days.

A Rose for a Rose

Lovely Lisa had a rose named after Emily. I finally got round to planting the seeds at the weekend. Drew purchased some seeding soil and I carefully planted my 8 precious seeds. I've even gone as far as making sure I got the right soil, a feeding calendar and called the Garden Centre for advice. The lady there didn't give me much hope of growing these seeds - but you never know, there is always hope.

Erm ooohh ahh!

I did want to blog about something today but I've forgotten what it was. MMM it could have been about the cat but I'm not sure. Oh well never mind, I'm sure it will return to me in the next few days. Well my Open Uni course has gotten underway and I'm quite happily learning about such things as Objects, Class, Superclass, Subclass - oi stop yawning, it's only going to get worse! Yes welcome to my world of learning about Object Oriented Programming with Java. Hot hot Java. Sadly not the hot milky kind I find in my local Neros but the tippty tappity on the keyboard kind. I have re-entered the realm of the PROGRAMMER.

I have to say a big Yo to Tosha for returning some large knitting needles I had totally forgotten about them (I reckon I'd forgotten a year ago about these). Cheers lovely lady I shall stash them away in my knitting bag for next time. See there is some hope for our placenta brains. Ah that reminds me it was a video of Elvis that I wanted to share with you - erm but I've left the video downloaded on my pc in the office. Curses. Oh well let's hope I can remember tomorrow to upload it to the blog.

PS this post was wirelessly presented to you today from my bedroom

Woo hoo wireless rocks

Even thought I'm only 2 feet away from the pc and router I'm wireless nevertheless!

Weeeee!

wireless router is here - next blog should be via my laptop whilst roaming the house :)

Ta Da!!!

Knocked this up in about 20 minutes with the left over material from Phoebes cushions I made on Sunday!

Sew mad

I made some cushion covers for Phoebes wooden bench in her bedroom! Not too bad for a complete novice. The woman at Dunelm overestimated the amount of material I needed and now I have enough left over to make a large cushion.

I also received some compliments for the taggies I've made for various friends. Lucie kindly told me that people have been asking here where she got her taggie blanket from, she told them it was hand made and people said they were interested in it. So I'm off to make some little business cards and get her to pass them on to whoever asks!

RE:Things to think about

How come George (double u) Bush's Army can hit and explode a dangerous moving satellite but yet failed so many times to hit a non-moving target on ground?

To all my American friends I apologise for my previous comment. I certainly don't put you in the same light as the dumb-ass George (duuble-yaa) Bush.

Saying goodbye..

We've decided to cut our home telephone - from 20th March we will no longer have a home phone! You may ask why and the simple reason is we've all got mobile phones, and hardly used the home one. So it's time to say goodbye, somehow I don't think i'll miss it!

It's pink

More parcels

Just bought myself a bubblejum pink Dell laptop (it's got a webcam too) . Oh and did I tell you it was pink? Ok so I finally purchased one, not that i've been bemoaning the fact to my friends that buying in the states is half the price compared to buying here, but as I don't know anyone who is flying back anytime son and I needed one to allow be to be more mobile whilst trying to study for my OU degree - well I just had to buy one, and it was pink!

Parcels are Great

I wish I got more parcels! I've had a spate of them recently, first my new funky webcam arrived, next my Open University books arrived. Today I got a mystery parcel that I had to pick up from the post office. And indside was a full sized free sample of some new fabric conditioner, along with a booklet of money off vouchers. I'm really looking forward to using this one. I'm also awaiting some parcels from the Natural Collection website. I ordered some items that were on sale! Next I got 2 x 2GB sd micro memory cards (which I use for Phoebe's Nintendo to ahem store games on!).

Woohoo to parcels and may they continue to bring the joy they've brought me in the last month (especially so when they haven't cost me any money)

Still Busy

Yes I'm still busy, too busy to blog. But I have added another link at the right hand side of my blog with some of my favourite links to websites and shops. I'm promoting this as I try to slowly change our household over to more ecofriendly products and way of living. We are even going to sell my car and just have one family car! Shall be interesting to see how we cope with that change. And no doubt I'll blog about it. But for now I wanted to say a big thanks to everyone who has kept asking after my mum. She's doing a lot better now, and now doubt over the following months she will be regaining her strength. She's still yet to see the cardiologist, but otherwise she's fine.

Toodle pip everyone
